Book Review: Pick a Pumpkin, Mrs. Millie! by Judy Cox

Today’s Halloween book review is Pick a pumpkin, Mrs. Millie! by Judy Cox. Here’s what it’s about:

Silly Mrs. Millie is at it again. In the fall, she takes her kindergartners on a class trip to pick pumpkins for their harvest party. The class has fun guessing the meanings of their favorite teacher’s nonsense words. They go on a dragon (wagon) ride, pet the boats (goats), and drink apple spider(cider). Coupled with hilarious artwork in pen, pencil, and colored dyes by Joe Mathieu, the lighthearted text sets a class trip on its ear, even as it teaches a subtle lesson in wordplay.

I read a bunch of other reviews about this book and found that there are quite a few mixed opinions about it. I must say that I LOVED IT!! The story is filled with funny wordplay like the description says. The teacher, Mrs. Millie is a happy and fun teacher most kids would beg to lead their class. This book has colorful and silly illustrations that are really well done by Joe Mathieu as well. I think some adults who rate kids books need to remember the book is written for the young ones and rate accordingly. This one is a very happy book and has been added to my favorites list.

My Rating: 5 out of 5
