Book Review: Merry Christmas, Curious George by Margret Rey

Today’s holiday book review is Merry Christmas, Curious George by Margret Rey. Here’s what it’s about:

It’s Christmastime! And irrepressible, excitable Curious George has just the spirit for it. He can’t wait to help his best friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat, pick out their holiday tree. At the tree farm, however, amid all the excitement of finding the perfect specimen, George gets carried away, as usual—atop his favorite tree! Hiding in the tree’s branches, George finds himself delivered to the local children’s hospital, where his tree trimming antics cheer the children and he gets to meet a jolly man in a bright red suit.

Another adorable Curious George book, although very much like another one of the books. George gets in trouble, but makes a lot of kids in the hospital happy. You’ll love this one as much as all the others.

Book Review: Harold at the North Pole by Crockett Johnson

Today’s holiday book review is Harold at the North Pole by Crockett Johnson. Here’s what it’s about:

It’s Christmas Eve, and Harold needs a Christmas tree. So, with purple crayon in hand, he sets off to get one. Before long he finds himself at the North Pole, where a snowbound Santa Claus needs his help. It’s up to the ever-resourceful Harold to draw up a plan and save Christmas!

Yes, Harold to the rescue in this story. He’s a little cutie and quite busy in this book. I really enjoyed this one as Harold drew his way through the story.

Book Review: Christmas In Mouseland by Katharine Holabird

Today’s holiday book review is Christmas In Mouseland by Katharine Holabird. Here’s what it’s about:

Angelina auditions for the role of Cinderella Mouse for a special Christmas dance performance, but she gets the part of the Wicked Stepmouse instead. Angelina tries her best to convince Miss Lilly and the show’s director that she deserves the part of Cinderella, but she has no luck. Will Angelina stay with the show?

Loved this story and the illustrations. Shows you don’t always get what you want but you are needed regardless and should make the best of what you’re given. I can see where girls would love the Angelina Ballerina series.

Book Review: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss

Today’s holiday book review is How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss. Here’s what it’s about:

“The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! / Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.” Dr. Seuss’s small-hearted Grinch ranks right up there with Scrooge when it comes to the crankiest, scowling holiday grumps of all time. For 53 years, the Grinch has lived in a cave on the side of a mountain, looming above the Whos in Whoville. The noisy holiday preparations and infernal singing of the happy little citizens below annoy him to no end. The Grinch decides this frivolous merriment must stop. His “wonderful, awful” idea is to don a Santa outfit, strap heavy antlers on his poor, quivering dog Max, construct a makeshift sleigh, head down to Whoville, and strip the chafingly cheerful Whos of their Yuletide glee once and for all.

This is my favorite Dr. Suess book. The Grinch has become such a classic character around Christmas. What else can I say? We all know and love the Grinch!

A Very Special Ugly Christmas Sweater

My son was on the lookout for an ugly Christmas sweater to wear to work today. Unfortunately, it’s been another year of not finding them plentiful in stores. This surprises me considering a report I watched on the news about how popular they’ve become along with the ugly Christmas sweater parties. So I told him I’d make him a sweater if he drew up the design. Since it was a bit too late to knit him one, he gave me an old sweater and I improvised. This is made with a standard man’s sweater, felt, tiny pom pom balls, buttons, glue, and like colored thread. We’re both pretty happy with how this turned out. Very easy to make in a few hours.
