Movie Review: Dead Within

DeadWithinDead Within is a different kind of zombie movie, but that doesn’t make it bad. Here’s what it’s about:

” Six months after the outbreak, a man and woman have survived by isolating themselves in a remote cabin. Starved for resources, they must confront the horrors that threaten them from outside and from within.”

Why I say different is because this movie doesn’t have any zombie gore. Dead Within is more psychological thriller than horror. There are only two characters trying to survive and keep their sanity after losing everything in a zombie apocalypse. Sure, it’s hard for two characters to carry a movie, but the main characters are played by convincing actors. The setting and atmosphere also played into the fear. For example, there were a number of times that the male character left the house to search for food and supplies. When he left, they followed a ritual of opening and closing the door. Each time the female character kicks a two-by-four between the door and oven to secure the door, it marks a deeper decent into insanity. Something so little as watching these actions over and over again added to the effect.

A lot of viewers are trashing this movie, but I LOVED IT! Take the cover literally, “Fear is Contagious.” This is what the movie is about. Seriously, if you’re looking for zombie gore, don’t watch and review this movie. It is so much better than the 3.8 rating on IMDB.

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Bloody Brains
