Documentary Review: Map of Hell

mapofhellReviewing an excellent documentary this week, Map of Hell narrated by Danny Trejo. Here’s what it’s about:

“Danny Trejo asks “What happens to bad guys when they die?” Many people believe Hell is a real place, so Danny’s taking a journey into the afterlife to map out where the idea of Hell came from. He’s exploring the darkest recesses of both the underworld and the human imagination. It’s a terrifying journey through 3,000 years of ideas, each more scary than the last, taking us from ancient Greece through the birth of Christianity to medieval Europe and modern America, visiting real locations believed to be portals to Hell and using hair-raising CG to re-create ideas about the terrifying place so many people believe exists.”

Seriously, who could better take us on a tour of Hell than Danny Trejo. Oh, yeah, Dante. LOL!

Like I said, this is an excellent documentary about the evolution of Hell as we humans have created it. The visuals are the best part, with a mix of great artwork depicting Hell down through centuries and well done cinematography.

This documentary takes us back over 2500 years to the Greeks and continues on to modern day. The whole while, Danny Trejo adds his own spin, wondering where he might end up in Hell when he dies.

Watch it! Map of Hell is both entertaining and educational.

Documentary Review: Apocalypse: Staline

ApocalypseStalineDoing something different this week because we recently watched the three part documentary, Apocalypse: Staline on the American Hero Channel, and I came away terrified. Here’s what it’s about:

“Joseph Stalin’s rise to power while killing a FUCK load of innocent human beings.”

That happens to be my synopsis for the show in case you didn’t notice.

You know that saying, “Stranger than fiction,” well, it also works for “More horrific than fiction.” This documentary is just another reminder that down through history, us Average Joe’s are helpless as we stand by and watch our leaders pick sides with who they think is the lesser of two evils. In this case, the Allies joined forces with a man who makes Satin himself look like a sympathetic guy.

The footage is spectacular! I wondered what Russian archives were opened to make this mini-series. I watched engrossed as each and every minute of this documentary progressed. So well done! Go now, watch it on the American Hero Channel’s website or YouTube (I think it’s there too.).

Come back and tell me you don’t see similarities to a certain man who also wants to rise to the most power position on earth today. I mean it’s much better to live in denial, right? Kidding, of course. Couldn’t resist adding my own political commentary. Just watch it and be reminded of how much worse this world has been in the past along with the knowledge that history DOES repeat itself.
