Book Review: Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

When I was looking for Halloween books to review I ran across Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. This isn’t a Halloween themed book, but it’s worth a mention, so I decided to write a second review today. Here’s what it’s about:

The witch and her cat are happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind picks up and blows away the witch’s hat, then her bow, and then her wand! Luckily, three helpful animals find the missing items, and all they want in return is a ride on the broom. But is there room on the broom for so many friends? And when disaster strikes, will they be able to save the witch from a hungry dragon?

WOW! What amazing illustrations by Axel Scheffler. The witch is silly yet sweet looking, and the animals are adorable. The dragon is colorful and a little silly himself. The dark yet colorful illustrations really worked with this story. And speaking of story, it’s a poem, and a fun one at that. The witch finds some faithful friends that are willing to help her in the end. I really enjoyed this one and so will you.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
