There are Vampires in my Head

Two posts from me in two days… the Pillars of Heaven must be trembling.

Today I awoke to find a new resident in my head, a character that I knew would have to arrive sooner or later, but I was surprised to find that he took up residence this morning.

He’s a vampire, born almost 2000 years ago in Syria. And he’s a lot of work, because just finding out what he knows is going to take a lot of time. And that’s the hardest part of all of this for me. Wendy and I will be writing the words and actions and thoughts, at least part of the time, of people (and I use the term loosely) who have done a whole lot more living than we have.

I can’t even imagine what it’s like to be a hundred years old, much less a millennium or two. We think of the Crusades as a distant memory, to him, they’re something that happened — to him. Imagine the changes that he’s seen happen to mankind. To come from the dark ages into the Industrial Age and now to the Information Age would be like walking from a dark cave into the sunlight.

I can’t wait to hear more from him…

  1. Cool!! I got one too.

Marcus Gregory, distant nephew of St. Gregory of Tours. In 575 A.D. a judicial administrator who practiced Trials by Ordeal to determine the guilt of heretics. He was a maniacal man, made a vampire as a form of revenge by one of his victims. But he ended up manipulating his way into the Council of Elders and is still the bastard he was then.

  2. Once a bastard, always a bastard. Is that a Mark Twain or Will Rogers saying? I would love to hate this guy.

  3. I like it when new characters come by to visit and I get to learn about them and see them grow. Wishing you the best as you try to envision this characters life.
